There's a moment in hill country when the cloud breaks just enough to let a single slope catch the light, and everything else stays in shadow. That's what drew me here: the near hillside glowing a soft, almost luminous green while the mountains behind it sat quiet and grey under a heavy sky. The line of dark pine forest along the loch's edge gave the scene a solid base, something to hold the eye before it travelled up into the clouds.
The water stayed calm, reflecting just enough light to separate the layers of land without pulling attention from the hills. It's a simple composition really - light, shadow, and stillness - but that contrast between the sunlit slope and the brooding weather behind it felt like the whole character of the Highlands in one frame.
This photograph is displayed as Light On The Fells and catalogued as Sunlit Hills Beside Mountain Lake, connecting the gallery title with the subject and location described on this page.
