The Story Behind the Photo

While watching the birds over the water, I managed to capture this gull hovering briefly in the air before changing direction. The still grey water behind it created a clean and simple background that helped isolate the bird and emphasise the shape of its wings.

What drew me to the image was the feeling of movement and freedom within such a quiet scene. Seagulls are often overlooked because they’re so familiar, but moments like this reveal how graceful they can actually be when frozen in time through a photograph.

This photograph is displayed as Saltwind Reverie and catalogued as Glide Over Silver Water, connecting the gallery title with the subject and location described on this page.
