The Story Behind the Photo
While photographing wildlife near the water, this mallard suddenly stretched out its wing, revealing the intricate feather patterns and flashes of colour usually hidden from view. The calm water behind it helped isolate the bird and made the movement stand out even more.
What drew me to this moment was the mix of elegance and simplicity. Ducks are such familiar birds that it’s easy to overlook how beautiful they really are, but seeing the wing fully extended gave me a new appreciation for the detail and colour within the feathers. I wanted the photograph to capture that brief moment and encourage people to notice the beauty in everyday wildlife.
